
Specifications on Sending Artwork to Empire
for Screen Printing & Flexographic Printing
Computer Files-
Keep your original file and send us a copy at 100% size. Eliminate
all unnecessary elements in your file and send only files needed
for production. Please mail or fax a paper printout of file also.
Vector Programs- Preferred programs include Adobe Illustrator,
Corel Draw & Freehand.
- Save files as .eps, .ai, .cdr & .fh.
- Include all fonts or convert to outlines/curves.
- Include all placed images and linked graphics, avoid embedding
images.
- Try to draw all logos and artwork when possible rather than
placing Photoshop images. Use Photoshop for photographs and special
effects.
Raster Programs- Preferred program is Adobe Photoshop.
- Save files as .eps, .tif, .bmp & .psd. Digital photos may
be saved in .jpg format.
- Provide the highest quality and resolution that you have.
- Please include layered file when possible.
- Try to keep logo's and type in Vector or Page Layout programs
when possible.
Page Layout Programs- Preferred programs include QuarkXPress,
Adobe InDesign & Pagemaker.
- Include all fonts.
- Include all placed images. In Quark do a "collect for
output."
Other Programs-Save as .eps, .tif and .pdf if possible.
Please check with art department for compatibility.
Blueprints- AutoCAD and other programs.
- Save as .dxf
- Best for dimensions only, not artwork.
- Please indicate correct size.
- Include all dimensions & locations of cutouts, holes, windows,
radius corners and irregular shapes.
Colors- List
all colors used. Four color images should be saved in CMYK mode.
If a spot color is used please indicate Pantone®
number or include swatch to color match.
Perfect Register- Try to avoid
perfect register. Add black or dark color traplines/borders when
possible.
Printing Requirements-
Screen Printing
- Keep design .045" from edge of diecut, unless design bleeds
off part.
- Borders on edge of diecut should be a minimum of .045"
wide.
- Bleeds should be extended .063" (1/16) past the diecut.
- Line thickness minimum is .007" (.5 pt.) for positive
copy. For reverse copy minimum line thickness should be .009"
(.65 pt.).
- Traplines (dark, solid outlines around graphics) should be
.020" (1.44 pt.) wide.
- Tints and gradients recommended 15-85% dot.
- Line screen ranges from 35-133 lpi
Flexographic Printing
- Keep design .045" from edge of diecut, unless
design bleeds off part.
- Borders on edge of diecut should be a minimum of .045"
wide.
- Bleeds should be extended .063" (1/16) past the diecut.
- Line thickness minimum is .007" (.5 pt.) for positive
copy. For reverse copy minimum line thickness should be .009"
(.65 pt.).
- Traplines (dark, solid outlines around graphics) should be
.015" (1.08 pt.) wide.
- Tints and gradients recommended 5-95% dot.
- Line screen ranges from 133-175 lpi
Trademark Symbols- should be large and heavy enough to
print, a line thickness of .007" for positive copy or .009"
for reverse. Customer assumes all responsiblitiy for obtaining
permission (if needed) to reproduce copyrighted logos and material.
Disks- We accept CD, Zip, 3.5"
floppy disks, DVD & 120 MB Super Disk. We accept both PC
and Mac formats. Include a paper copy printout of artwork on
disk. Mail to: Empire Screen Printing Inc., N5206 Marco Road,

if known. Please label artwork and disks clearly with your company
name, part number and program being used.
